Wyze Solar Cam Pan Recall (CPSC 26524): Which Units Are Affected and How to Check

Most “Wyze Solar Cam Pan review” pages cover pan-tilt coverage and sunshine. Almost none cover the fact that decides whether this purchase is safe: one trailing digit in the model number separates the camera Wyze sells today from the camera the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled for fire and burn hazards. An earlier version of this page said Wyze had not published the specs. It had — in a Tech Specs article updated July 10, 2026.

The version check that decides everything

The recalled camera is WYZESCPWH. CPSC recall 26524, announced June 4, 2026: “The model number, WYZESCPWH, is located on the back of the camera. They were sold in white.” About 321,360 units shipped in the United States, plus about 2,560 in Canada, sold at “Home Depot and Micro Center, and online at www.wyze.com, Temu, Amazon, B2B Renew, Inc., ReturnPro and Best Buy from October 2025 through April 2026 for about $80.”

The harm report is specific: “The firm has received 13 consumer reports of the security cameras overheating, and six exploding and catching on fire, including six reports of consumers suffering minor burns.” The cause was not the sensor or the software. Per Wyze’s recall page, if “the long flat-head wood screws are incorrectly used to attach the solar panel bracket to the top of the camera, they may penetrate the closed-bottom brass inserts and puncture the internal lithium-ion battery’s metal casing.”

The camera on sale now is WYZESCPWH3. Wyze’s product page lists “Model: WYZESCPWH3,” and its support article answers directly: “No. Wyze Solar Cam Pan 2K is the updated version of Wyze Solar Cam Pan and is not part of the previously announced voluntary recall for certain earlier Wyze Solar Cam Pan units purchased on or before April 3, 2026.” Note what changed, though: every fix Wyze lists is about installation — “revised installation instructions, redesigned screw packaging, fail-safe screw types, and added warning labels.” Wyze publishes no change to the battery or the electronics.

How to tell which one you are looking at

• On the camera: the model number is on the back. WYZESCPWH is the recalled unit; WYZESCPWH3 is current.
• On the box: Wyze says “the updated version includes ‘2K’ after the ‘Wyze Solar Cam Pan’ product title.”
• In the app (v3.18 or newer): Settings > Device Info > Model Version. Both versions share the device model name “Wyze Solar Cam Pan,” but the updated one shows Model Version 1.1 and the original shows 1.0.

What the three Amazon listings publish

Amazon publishes a model number for every listing. On September 18, 2026 they did not line up the way a shopper would expect:

• B0H4FF5PJ6 — “WYZE Solar Cam Pan, 2K Security Cameras Wireless Outdoor, Battery Powered.” Model: WYZESCPWH, the recalled number. No in-stock offer.
• B0H7WQB761 — the 4-pack, $299.98. Model: WYZESCPWH4PK3. Also no in-stock offer.
• B0H4FKBVCJ — “WYZE Solar Cam Pan (Upgraded Model) – 2K Security Cameras Wireless Outdoor.” In Stock, $79.98. Model: WYZESCPNBWH.

The one you can buy is the one Wyze titles “(Upgraded Model).” But WYZESCPNBWH is neither WYZESCPWH nor the WYZESCPWH3 on Wyze’s own page, and we will not guess what the third string means. The listing does not settle the version for you: check the camera and the app before you mount anything.

If you already own the older one

CPSC says “stop using the recalled Wyze Solar Cam Pan security camera immediately,” and Wyze is “offering all affected consumers a free replacement camera with solar panel accessory, a full refund or a gift card.” Claiming it is one-way: “the recalled camera will be disabled and no longer function, even if the correct screws were used.” Also, “do not throw this recalled camera with lithium-ion battery in the trash.” Wyze adds that “if your solar panel was installed separately from the camera, or if the short pan-head machine screws were used…no action is needed.” The recall line is 888-832-7226.

What Wyze actually publishes about the 2K version

Power and solar. The battery is “6400mAh, non-removable Lithium-ion,” paired with an “Integrated Solar Panel (1.8W).” A cable recharge is “0-100% in 4-6 hours” — and the 5V/2A adapter is not included; the box has a 2 ft Type-C to USB-A cable. Sunlight needed: “At least 1 hour of direct sunlight per day.”

The cold-weather clause is the one buyers miss: “solar charging will automatically pause to protect the battery when the outside temperature drops below 32°F (0°C).” The camera keeps recording; it just stops charging. Battery life is where Wyze’s product page disagrees with itself. The spec table says “Up to 6 months (if not connected to power).” The FAQ further down that same page says the camera will “last 2-6months under normal usage.” Tech Specs sides with the FAQ: “Up to 2-6 months.” Two of three published figures start at two months, so plan for two.

Video and coverage. Resolution is “2394 x 1296 (2K)” off a 1/2.7-inch CMOS sensor, encoded H.264, at “Daytime: 20 FPS, Nighttime: 15 FPS,” with 8x digital zoom. Field of view: “Diagonal: 130°, Horizontal: 108°, Vertical: 57°.” The head covers “Horizontal: 360°, Vertical: 70°” at up to 36° per second horizontally. Night vision is “Color Night Vision, IR LEDs: 2x 850nm,” the spotlight “2x White LED (100 lm),” the siren 105dB.

Detection range, with the conditions attached. Wyze: “Wyze Solar Cam Pan 2K has a detection range of up to 30 feet when mounted 8 feet off the ground, and tilted 30° downward (recommended).” The installation guide says “7-10 feet up, angled 30° down,” with “at least 2 inches of clearance around the camera.” The panel mounts apart from the camera on “the attached 10-ft cable” — the fix for a shaded spot.

Storage, subscription and two hard limits. Local recording “Supports up to 512 GB microSD cards in exFAT format,” but continuous recording works only “aslong as the camera is connected to 5V/2A AC power” — which undercuts the wire-free pitch. Cloud clips are paid (Cam Plus “$2.99/mo per camera” with a 30-day free trial; Cam Unlimited “$9.99/month or $99/year”); tracking is not, since the camera “comes with AI-powered person tracking without the need for a subscription.” Wi-Fi is single-band — “supports 2.4 GHz only” — and “a Wyze Base Station is neither compatible or required.”

In the box — and Wyze publishes two different lists. The product page counts nine items: camera, solar panel, two mounting brackets, two mounting kits, a 2 ft charging cable, a drilling-guide sticker and a QSG. The Installation Guide counts ten, adding an “Outdoor Installation Guide x1” next to the “Quick Start Guide x1.” Since the recall came from the wrong screws going into the wrong holes, which paperwork ships is not trivial. Buying at wyze.com adds “an extended 18-month warranty instead of the standard 12 months.”

Solar Cam Pan 2K vs. Wyze’s wired pan-tilt cameras

The useful comparison is the two Wyze cameras that spin and tilt for less money, if you have an outlet. All figures are Wyze’s own, retrieved September 18, 2026.

The trade reads off the rows. The solar model is the only one that goes on a fence post with no wiring, and the only one with a 105dB siren and a 100-lumen spotlight. You pay in resolution, tilt range, single-band Wi-Fi and $20 over the v4 — before the outdoor adapter the wired pair needs.

The honest part: what nobody can tell you yet

Nobody here has mounted this camera: no noise measurement, no seasonal battery log, no night footage. Separately, there are things Wyze itself does not publish, and we will not guess:

• Wi-Fi range. No figure in feet or meters on any Wyze page for this model.
• Night vision distance. Wyze publishes the IR hardware (2 x 850nm LEDs) but no viewing range. The 30-foot figure is motion detection range, not how far you see in the dark.
• Pan motor noise. The siren is rated 105dB; the motor has no published dB figure.
• Battery cycle life. No published charge-cycle count or capacity loss per year.
• Whether the in-stock Amazon listing is physically a WYZESCPWH3. Amazon publishes WYZESCPNBWH for it; Wyze publishes WYZESCPWH3. Nothing either company publishes reconciles the two strings. A title is a title; the number on the back of the camera is the check.

If you are replacing a recalled unit

The one you can actually buy: the “(Upgraded Model)” listing

$79.98 and In Stock on September 18, 2026 — against the plain “Solar Cam Pan” listing, which publishes the recalled model number WYZESCPWH and showed no in-stock offer at all. Its bullets match the 2K camera: “360° pan and 70° tilt,” a “105dB siren,” “2K resolution,” microSD “up to 512GB (sold separately).” Amazon lists the warranty as “1-Year Limited Manufacturer Warranty.” Order it, then run the model check before it goes on a wall.

If there is an outlet near the mounting spot: Wyze Cam Pan v4

$59.98 at wyze.com, and In Stock on Amazon at $59.98 on September 18, 2026 under model WYZECPAN4_WH. 4K (3840 x 2160), 360° pan with 180° tilt, dual-band Wi-Fi, microSD up to 512 GB, rated from -40°F to 158°F. Wyze’s outdoor note reads “Requires Wyze Universal Outdoor Power Adapter (sold separately)” — budget for that plus a cable run. Sharper picture, wider tilt, less money; you trade away the wire-free install.

If you only need indoor or covered-porch coverage: Wyze Cam Pan v3

$44.98, 1080p, 360° by 180°, 120° field of view, IP65, 256 GB microSD ceiling, same outdoor-adapter requirement as the v4: Wyze Cam Pan v3 (wyze.com).

The bottom line

At $79.98, a 6400mAh battery fed by a 1.8W panel that needs one hour of sun a day, 360° of pan, subscription-free person tracking, a 105dB siren and IP65 sealing is a lot of hardware for a spot with no power. Two things decide it. First, the model number: WYZESCPWH is the recalled unit with six fires attached to it, Amazon still lists that number, and no title is proof — confirm WYZESCPWH3 on the camera or as Model Version 1.1 in the app, and send it back if you cannot. Second, your winter: charging stops below 32°F, and two of three published battery figures start at two months.

Can it record 24/7 without wires?

No. Continuous microSD recording works “aslong as the camera is connected to 5V/2A AC power.” On solar and battery alone it records events, not a stream. If 24/7 footage is the requirement, the wired Cam Pan v4 plus the outdoor adapter is cheaper.
