BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro review: What to Know

One naming note first, because it decides whether you are on the right page. This URL says “Pet Pro.” The machine it covers — ASIN B0B94P5LDK, model 3588F — is the Pet Pro Plus. BISSELL also sells a ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro bundle, model 3587, listed at the same $279.99. Different carton, different hose, different tools. Everything below is the Plus.

Nobody here has plugged this machine in, and we will not pretend otherwise. What follows comes from two documents BISSELL publishes and almost nobody reads: the spec block on its 3588F page, and the 8-page official user guide (Part Number 1633682 09/22 RevA) linked from it. One of their answers contradicts the product’s own name.

The thing the name gets wrong: ProHeat does not heat

The first question in BISSELL’s own FAQ on the 3588F page is whether the machine heats water. Verbatim:

“No, the machine does not heat water. It features HeatWave Technology®, which helps maintain the water temperature throughout the cleaning process by utilizing the motor’s heat. However, it does not heat the water itself; I should fill the tank with warm tap water (not boiling).”

That is a purchase criterion, not a gotcha. The heat is whatever you carry from the tap, and the manual caps it: “Add warm tap water (140°F, 60°C MAX) to WATER line. Do not use boiling water.” Your water heater’s setting is part of this product’s performance; HeatWave only slows the tank’s cooling with waste heat off the motor. The full spec sheet, with nothing left out

Every figure below is published by BISSELL on the 3588F page, in an accordion most shoppers never expand.

Three footnotes. Amazon’s spec box for this ASIN lists “Item Weight 5.1 pounds” — plan around BISSELL’s 17.5 lbs (18 on BISSELL’s own Amazon chart), not 5. The 25-foot cord plus 8-foot hose give a working radius of about 33 feet from the outlet. And $279.99 is BISSELL’s figure on 2026-09-18, which BISSELL discounts itself — a second capture the same day showed $237.99, marked 15% off. Amazon prices move separately.

What is actually in the box — and BISSELL’s two different answers

BISSELL’s “What’s in the box?” module lists six items, four with their reorder part numbers:

Those three priced accessories total $98.24 at BISSELL’s own replacement prices.

Now the wrinkle, and it is BISSELL’s, not ours. Further down the same page, the marketing copy says the box holds “a trial size of BISSELL® PET PRO OXY Urine Eliminator formula, and a trial size of BISSELL® Pet Stain & Odor + Antibacterial formula.” The spec module says PRO MAX Clean + Protect, not Antibacterial. Amazon sides with the spec module: “FORMULAS INCLUDED: BISSELL PRO MAX Clean + Protect Formula… and BISSELL Pet Pro Oxy Urine Eliminator.” The user guide points at the carton instead: “Standard accessories may vary by model. To identify what should be included with your purchase, please refer to the ‘Carton Contents’ list located on the carton top flap.”

Not trivia: the Antibacterial formula is not interchangeable — it has its own fill line and yellow cap, and “OXY Boost is not compatible with ANTIBACTERIAL formula.” Expect Antibacterial, get PRO MAX, and your first load is different chemistry.

How you actually run it: three modes, two speeds, one 5-minute wait

The user guide is specific about pace — the variable most owners get wrong.

Eight inches per second is slower than it sounds — about 40 seconds to cross a 27-foot room, one direction. Express is the mode BISSELL markets — “dry in about 30 minutes² in Express Cleaning Mode” — and that footnote is worth reading: “²Based on carpet dry times against competitive consumer carpet cleaners after two wet/two dry passes.” A comparative test result, not a promise about your humidity.

Three details from the guide that change how a session goes:

• You still need a vacuum. Step one: “Remove any solids and use a dry vacuum cleaner before using your deep cleaner.” BISSELL’s FAQ repeats it — this is not a dry vacuum.
• Wet the brush roll first. Press the recline pedal, then “Hold spray trigger for 10 seconds to wet the brush roll.”
• CleanShot is a wait, not a trick. Press the button with your foot, soak the stain, turn it off, then “Let soak for 5 minutes” before extracting. Rushing wastes the feature you paid extra for.

Then the rinse cycle most owners skip: refill with warm water, “press trigger for 15 seconds while making back and forth passes on a section of carpet,” then rinse the dirty tank and float stack, and wipe the red filter beneath it.

The honest part: what BISSELL does not publish

No published figure exists for any of these — not on the product page, not in the guide, not on Amazon. We will not estimate them.

• Noise in decibels. BISSELL claims “50% quieter” against an unnamed baseline. No dB figure is published.
• Suction in Pa, kPa or air watts. Same: “40% stronger suction” is the entire claim.
• Dirty water tank capacity. Only the 1-gallon clean tank is specified, so the spec sheet cannot tell you how often you will walk to the sink.
• Assembled dimensions. No height, width or depth — awkward, since closet clearance is the storage constraint on a full-size upright.
• Coverage per tank and wattage (only “6.8 Amps”).
• Formula cost per fill. Neither refill price nor dose per tank appears on the page.

Two caveats on the numbers you can see. BISSELL shows 4.6 from 4,641 ratings, Amazon 4.3 from 5,405 for the same ASIN — different review pools, not a contradiction. And the user guide carries the date code 09/22: a 2022 document covering “MODELS 3588, 3588F, 3589 | 3587 SERIES” — the clearest evidence that the Plus and the 3587 share a chassis.

The running cost nobody puts on the box: formula lock-in

BISSELL does not suggest its formulas, it requires them. The safety instructions say to “Use only BISSELL® cleaning formulas intended for use with this appliance to prevent internal component damage,” and the filling page repeats it: “Always use genuine BISSELL formulas* in your machine. Other formulas may harm the machine.” The asterisk leads to a closed list of ten: Clean + Refresh, PET Stain & Odor, PRO MAX Clean + Protect, PET PRO OXY Urine Eliminator, PET Stain Pretreat, PET PRO OXY Stain Destroyer, PET Pretreat + Sanitize, Pet Stain & Odor + Antibacterial, OXY Boost, PET OXY Boost.

Plan on buying from that list for the life of the machine. The optional OXY Boost dose is 60 mL and does not mix with Antibacterial formula. BISSELL publishes no per-fill cost, so we will not invent one — but brand-locked consumables are a different proposition from pouring in whatever the hardware store sells.

Where this machine is the wrong buy

All four come from BISSELL’s own documentation, not category grumbling:

• Berber carpet: “To prevent damage to Berber carpets, avoid repeated strokes in the same area.” A machine whose deep modes are built on repeated passes works against itself there.
• Silk and delicate rugs: “Don’t use on silk or delicate rugs.” Test any area rug for colorfastness first.
• Anything commercial: “THIS MODEL IS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY. COMMERCIAL USE OF THIS UNIT VOIDS THE MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY.”
• Rooms you cannot close off: “Stay off carpet until dry,” with no published dry time outside Express mode’s 30 minutes.

One maintenance note: replacing the belts or brush rolls is a documented user job, not a service call — but a nine-step teardown needing a Phillips-head and a flathead screwdriver.

3588F vs. the BISSELL alternatives you can buy today

BISSELL’s chart swaps the CleanShot stream for Steam PreTreat, keeps the 1-gallon tank, 11-inch path and dual DirtLifter brush roll, and runs three modes like the Plus. The trade is mass: 22 lbs versus 18, heaviest of the four, and the group’s lowest Amazon rating at 4.1 across 2,235. Pick it if you want heat at the stain rather than a concentrated shot of formula.

If you will never use a pretreater: ProHeat Revolution Pet

BISSELL’s chart lists this one with no pretreater at all, while keeping three modes, the 1-gallon tank, the 11-inch path, the 2X Dual DirtLifter Powerbrush and the same 18 lbs; it drops the antimicrobial brush rolls. Amazon rating 4.3 across 2,298 — the same score as the Plus. If your messes are traffic soil rather than set-in accidents, the CleanShot premium buys nothing.

The verdict

At $279.99 the Pet Pro Plus is the pretreatment model in BISSELL’s upright line, and that is the case for it. CleanShot plus a five-minute soak is a real procedure for set-in accidents, the antimicrobial brush rolls are the only tick in that row on BISSELL’s four-way chart, and about $98 of the box is accessories BISSELL sells separately. The chassis — 1 gallon, 11-inch path, 6.8 amps, 12-row dual brush roll, 17.5 lbs, 5-year warranty — is shared across the line. You are not buying a better machine; you are buying the stain workflow bolted to it.

Buy the 3588F if your problem is pet accidents on wall-to-wall carpet, on one level, within about 33 feet of an outlet. Buy the 3587 instead, at the same $279.99 list price, the moment carpeted stairs enter the picture. Skip the line if your carpet is Berber, silk or delicate, if the use would be commercial, or if you were counting on “ProHeat” to mean it heats its own water. It does not, and BISSELL says so.
